What are the types of anemometers?

Time:2023-11-05 16:26:28 Popularity:307

In addition to mechanical anemometers, there are various types of anemometers such as electronic, ultrasonic, and thermal.

Electronic anemometers: These anemometers usually use the principle of electromagnetic induction to measure wind speed. Inside the instrument, there are one or more coils, when the wind blows through these coils, the coils will be subjected to an induced voltage proportional to the wind speed. This induced voltage is processed by an electronic circuit and can be converted into a wind speed reading. Electronic anemometers have the advantages of high measurement accuracy and fast response time, but the price is relatively high.

Ultrasonic anemometer: This type of anemometer uses the relationship between the speed of ultrasonic wave propagation in the air and the wind speed to measure the wind speed. Inside the instrument, there is an ultrasonic transmitter and receiver. The transmitter emits ultrasonic waves, and when the ultrasonic waves encounter wind currents, their propagation speed is affected by the wind currents. By measuring the time difference between the ultrasonic waves from the transmitter and the receiver, the wind speed can be calculated. The ultrasonic anemometer has the advantages of non-contact measurement, high accuracy and high resolution, but it is more expensive.

Thermal anemometer: This type of anemometer uses the sensitivity of thermistors to temperature changes to measure wind speed. Inside the instrument, there are one or more thermistors, and when the wind blows over these thermistors, the temperature of the thermistors will change, thus causing a change in the resistance value. By measuring the change in resistance value, the wind speed can be calculated. Thermal anemometers have the advantages of small size and moderate price, but the measurement accuracy is relatively low.

These are several common types of anemometers, which have their own advantages and disadvantages and are suitable for different application scenarios. When choosing an anemometer, you need to make comprehensive consideration according to the actual needs and budget.
