The instrument used to measure visibility is commonly called a visibility meter or atmospheric visibility sensor. It measures how atmospheric particles such as fog, smoke, rain or snow reduce visibility at a monitoring site.
Visibility meters may use transmissometer or forward-scatter principles. The selection depends on site layout, required data, maintenance access and integration method. For many field monitoring projects, compact visibility sensors are used with weather stations or road-weather systems.
| Instrument type | Measurement idea | Project check |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility meter | Quantifies atmospheric visibility | Application and unit |
| Forward-scatter sensor | Uses scattered light behavior | Mounting and cleaning access |
| Transmissometer | Uses source and receiver path | Path length and site layout |
| Data logger or host | Stores visibility and status | RS485 reading and platform mapping |
NiuBoL visibility sensor information references forward-scatter visibility measurement, DC12V power context and RS485 three-wire communication. The sensor sends visibility values and status information to the monitoring host.
Visibility instruments are used for highways, ports, airports, meteorology, environmental monitoring and fog-prone industrial sites. The instrument should be purchased only after the visibility decision and alarm requirement are defined.
A visibility meter or atmospheric visibility sensor is used to measure visibility conditions in the atmosphere. For procurement, check measured parameter, output interface, power, installation point and data use before confirming the model and accessories.
Fog, smoke, haze, rain, snow and suspended particles can reduce visibility and change the reported value. For integration, verify live value, unit, timestamp, device label and receiving platform record rather than relying only on a successful power-on test.
Check RS485 communication, wiring, power, host compatibility, platform field mapping and polling interval for the selected visibility sensor.
It is useful in road weather, ports, airports, weather stations, environmental monitoring and sites where low visibility affects operation.
Confirm measuring need, output, power, mounting position, cleaning access, alarm threshold, platform unit and data interval. A useful inquiry should state measured parameter, output interface, power, installation point and data use; this allows NiuBoL to match the product configuration without adding unsupported parameters.
Verify live value, status data, RS485 reading, timestamp, alarm display, mounting condition and clean optical path. The acceptance record should include live value, unit, timestamp, device label and receiving platform record so later maintenance can identify whether the sensor or the system caused a fault.
Visibility is measured by a visibility meter or visibility sensor. Selection should follow site layout, communication method and the operational decision triggered by low visibility.
