Although it is said that sensors are the sensing devices at the bottom of the Internet of Things, some people think of sensor manufacturers first when they think of data collection. However, actually speaking from the business side, in the practice of the Industrial Internet of Things, how to connect to the controller is the first problem to be solved. Because there are already a lot of available data in the controller, these data are closely related to the equipment's faults, status, process parameters, energy consumption parameters, etc. At the same time, in some application scenarios, it is necessary to issue commands to the controller (issue formula, start and stop, modify process parameters, etc.)
Therefore, the connection of the controller is the primary consideration on the business side. However, the sensor is more because the data latitude on the controller side is not enough, or some new applications and new equipment or equipment without a controller (either very old or partial mechanical equipment) will become the first consideration.
The traditional approach is generally to use SCADA software in the automation system to collect local equipment and store it in the corresponding database. Then the IT system uses the database docking to collect data. This is not only costly (especially for equipment-based equipment operation and maintenance), but also low in efficiency. Therefore, industrial gateways have gained more market.
The traditional SCADA market will gradually slow down. At the database and data display level, IT systems have more powerful configuration capabilities (high concurrency, distributed storage, H5 technology, 3D, etc.), and at the protocol level, they are more flexible. Alternative to the industrial gateway.
Generally speaking, industrial smart gateways need to have the following capabilities:
1. It has the ability to analyze the next (automation system) protocol (communication protocol: Modbus, PPI, MPI, CNC, etc.; bus protocol: CAN, PROFIBUS, etc.; industrial wireless protocol: WirelessHart, 433, etc.). The current gateway uses the communication protocol as Mainly, only a few manufacturers will consider the next bus protocol and wireless protocol.
