How to differentiate between digital and analog sensors?

Time:2022-08-09 21:47:20 Popularity:495

A sensor that outputs a digital quantity is a digital sensor.

A sensor that outputs an analog quantity is an analog sensor.

For example:

Digital speed sensor, which can output revolutions per minute in digital form,

The analog speed sensor can output a voltage (analog quantity) proportional to the number of revolutions per minute.

1. Analog sensors are susceptible to strong electrical interference (such as electric welding) and surges (such as lightning strikes), while digital sensors have various protection circuits and lightning protection designs, which greatly ensure the normal operation of the sensor.

2. There is a fault alarm prompt. The digital sensor can monitor the working status of the digital sensor at all times through the instrument, and when a sensor is found to be faulty, it can automatically alarm. Erroneous data display in the event of a sensor faulty state is avoided.

3. Good consistency, free of calibration. In the production of digital sensors, the sensor output has been calibrated with a high-precision standard dynamometer, so it can be calibrated free. Greatly improved work efficiency.

4. Long transmission distance, fast communication speed, and anti-cheating. The MV signal of the analog sensor is too small, which is easily affected by radio frequency interference and electromagnetic interference, and the signal attenuation will be caused by the influence of the cable resistance during the signal transmission process, so the transmission distance is short (within 30 meters).

The level of the digital signal of the digital sensor is hundreds of times higher than that of the digital sensor, and it is not easily disturbed. It is transmitted according to the industrial-grade field bus communication protocol, with strong communication signal, high speed and strong error correction ability.
