As a communication device, DTU has a wide range of applications. In a broad sense, when communicating, the module units responsible for sending data information at both ends of the transmission data link are called DTUs, which convert the format of the transmitted information and organize and verify the data. In a narrow definition, DTU generally refers to the lower GPRS / WIFI / 3G / 4G and other transmitting terminal equipment in wireless communication. DTU is the hub device between the serial device side and the platform side, and its communication protocol is extremely important. DTU mostly uses the MQTT protocol, of course, it can also be adapted according to customer needs.
Why MQTT? It was originally an instant messaging protocol developed by IBM. The MQTT protocol is a protocol designed to communicate with a large number of remote sensors and control devices that have limited computing power and work on low-bandwidth, unreliable networks. Its biggest advantage is that it has strong compatibility and can support all platforms. It can connect almost all networked objects to the Internet.
The MQTT protocol can work with extremely low protocol overhead and low power consumption, and supports millions of client connections. In particular, MQTT can easily push notifications to the client, reducing the load on the server and the client. Many useful functions of MQTT are suitable for IoT-oriented applications.
One of the advantages of wireless communication networks is that wireless terminal devices can be permanently online. DTU also supports the permanent online function in design, which requires DTU to include power-on automatic dialing, and use heartbeat packets to remain permanently online (when there is no data communication for a long time, the mobile gateway will disconnect the link between DTU and the center, and the heartbeat packet is DTU and the data center send a small data packet before the link is disconnected to keep the connection from being disconnected), support automatic reconnection after disconnection, automatic redial and other features.
DTU provides a serial communication interface. 4G DTU is basically a common serial communication method, and DTU can design the serial port data into a "transparent conversion" mode in design. DTU can be like a postman, the mail (original data) transmitted from the device is sent through the mail The vehicle (TCP/IP data packet) is transmitted without modifying the communication content in the mail (the platform receives the original data of the device). Therefore, DTU can be connected with various serial port communication scene interconnection equipment, and the user does not need to modify the equipment.
