The piezoelectric rain sensor uses piezoelectric ceramic kinetic rain monitoring to identify raindrops according to the strength of their falling strikes, from light rain to pounding rain, and to measure individual raindrops and thus calculate the rainfall.

The raindrops are subjected to the weight of the raindrops and air resistance during the descent and reach the ground at a constant velocity. According to P=mv, the measurement of the impact can be used to find the weight of the raindrops, which in turn gives the amount of continuous rainfall.
